To learn how to apply for a faculty or staff position, please review this tip sheet. The University of Miami’s Miami Herbert Business School has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Data Analyst 3 to work on the Coral Gables campus. Job Summary: The Data Analyst III will conduct applied empirical research in health economics, health services research, and health policy alongside research-active faculty in HMP. The work is primarily quantitative: cleaning and analyzing data, implementing causal inference methods, producing tables and figures, and drafting sections of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations. We are looking for a candidate with strong quantitative training and a genuine interest in academic research. The ideal candidate brings not only technical skill but also professional maturity: the ability to take initiative, communicate proactively, exercise sound judgment with limited oversight, and contribute intellectually to the direction of the work. Analysts who substantively shape the research (e.g., helping to frame questions, refine designs, and interpret results) may be eligible for co-authorship on resulting publications. The position is well suited to candidates at different career stages. Bachelor’s- or master’s-level applicants considering future graduate study will gain substantial empirical research experience in a pre-doctoral-style role. PhD-level applicants considering tenure-track academic careers will find the position structured similarly to a postdoc, with a primary focus on HMP faculty-led projects. Candidates who wish to build a long-term research career without pursuing an advanced degree are equally welcome. Responsibilities, expectations, and compensation will be calibrated to the candidate’s education and experience. Please include the following information with your application: Cover letter explaining interests in and qualifications for the position, detailed resume, and names and contact information for at least three professional references. Job Responsibilities: Conduct advanced data analysis with limited direction, including cleaning, coding, documenting, and managing research datasets. Contribute to study design and protocol development, including discussions of causal identification strategies, data requirements, and advanced analytic approaches. Serve as Project Coordinator for data contracts the department has entered with public and private organizations. Conduct literature reviews to inform study design and framing. Summarize data and preliminary findings for faculty and research teams. Maintain reproducible and well-organized code. Draft tables, figures, methods sections, and other components of manuscripts, conference abstracts, posters, and internal memos. Communicate proactively and professionally with faculty and research teams, including timely responses to correspondence and clear escalation when issues arise. Prepare and maintain IRB protocols and related correspondence for projects involving primary data collection. Support study logistics as needed, including participant recruitment, multi-site data collection, and research trainings. Other duties as assigned. Education Requirements: All levels of education will be considered, with compensation commensurate with education and experience. At minimum, this position requires a bachelor’s degree in economics, health policy, public policy, health services research, statistics, or a related quantitative field. A master’s degree or PhD in these fields is preferred. Strong quantitative preparation, including coursework in econometrics or an equivalent course on causal inference methods, is required at all levels. A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Required: Demonstrated interest in academic research. Strong critical thinking skills and a willingness to problem-solve proactively and independently rather than wait for direction. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with limited supervision. Excellent organization, attention to detail, and written and oral communication skills. Prior experience producing research deliverables (e.g., tables, figures, memos, manuscripts). Prior research experience in health economics, health services research, health policy, or a related field. Proficiency in at least one programming language used in empirical research (e.g., Stata, R, Python, SAS, Julia, or similar). Preferred but not required: Experience with Git/GitHub for version control and collaborative project management. Experience with LaTeX for academic writing. Familiarity with SQL, cloud computing, or text analysis. Familiarity with IRB processes and regulatory requirements for human subjects research. Interest in using AI-assisted programming tools (LLM-based coding agents) to accelerate research work.
