Why This Role Matters

As the Principal DevOps Engineer – Data Platform at arenaflex, you will be at the heart of our digital transformation journey. You will shape the future of our DevOps culture, drive automation across multi‑cloud environments, and ensure that our data platforms are resilient, secure, and performant. This is a unique opportunity to influence enterprise‑wide standards, mentor emerging talent, and work on high‑impact projects that directly affect the health and well‑being of millions.

Position Overview

This full‑time, remote‑first role (with a preferred hub in Seattle, USA) offers a competitive hourly rate of $26 and a flexible 8‑hour workday. You will report to the Head of Platform Engineering and collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams—including security, compliance, product, and data science—to deliver end‑to‑end DevOps solutions that meet strict regulatory and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute a comprehensive DevOps strategy that aligns with arenaflex’s business objectives, emphasizing observability, scalability, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Design, implement, and maintain IaC pipelines using Terraform, Ansible, or comparable tools to provision and manage resources across GCP, Azure, and AWS environments.
  • CI/CD Automation: Build, optimize, and own continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines with Jenkins, CircleCI, or similar platforms, ensuring rapid, reliable, and repeatable releases.
  • Version Control Governance: Establish best practices for Git workflows, code review processes, and automated testing frameworks to maintain high code quality and compliance.
  • Collaboration with Security & Compliance: Partner with security engineers to embed vulnerability scanning, secret management, and compliance checks into every stage of the delivery pipeline.
  • Performance Monitoring & Incident Response: Implement observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Cloud Logging) to proactively detect anomalies, reduce MTTR, and continuously improve system reliability.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging technologies—such as generative AI, GitLab advanced features, and container orchestration trends—and champion their adoption where they add measurable value.
  • Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Coach junior engineers, lead technical workshops, and foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge exchange across the organization.
  • Documentation & Standards: Produce clear, concise documentation for all DevOps processes, ensuring that standards are accessible, auditable, and reusable.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience in cloud environments (GCP, Azure, or AWS) with a strong focus on containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Proven expertise in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent tools.
  • Deep experience with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab CI) and version control systems (Git).
  • Strong programming/scripting skills in Python, Bash, or comparable languages.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex, ambiguous problems with analytical rigor and innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of influencing cross‑functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands‑on experience with monitoring and logging platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or Cloud Logging services.
  • Knowledge of security best practices in DevOps, including vulnerability scanning, compliance automation, and secure deployment pipelines.
  • Familiarity with generative AI tools or advanced GitLab features that enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Prior experience leading technical mentorship programs or delivering internal training sessions.
  • Certifications such as Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Acumen: Mastery of cloud-native architectures, microservices, and container orchestration.
  • Automation Mindset: Passion for building reusable, self‑service tooling that reduces manual effort.
  • Problem‑Solving: Ability to dissect intricate system failures, root‑cause issues, and implement robust fixes.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with product managers, data scientists, security teams, and senior leadership.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying ahead of industry trends and sharing insights with peers.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

arenaflex invests heavily in the professional development of its employees. In this role, you will have access to:

  • Annual learning budgets for conferences, certifications, and advanced training.
  • Mentorship from senior architects and industry thought leaders.
  • Opportunities to lead high‑visibility initiatives that shape the company’s technology roadmap.
  • Cross‑departmental projects that broaden your expertise beyond DevOps into data engineering, AI/ML, and product strategy.
