Position Overview

The Ground Operations Customer Support Specialist (also known as a Ramp Specialist) plays a critical role in ensuring that aircraft are serviced, loaded, and prepared for departure efficiently. Working at the bustling arenaflex hub in Raleigh‑Durham, NC, you will coordinate with multiple ground‑service teams, handle freight and baggage, and maintain the highest standards of safety and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

As a Ramp Specialist, you will be the backbone of our ground‑operations team. Your daily duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Customer Interaction: Provide courteous assistance to passengers, freight customers, and internal stakeholders, ensuring a positive experience at every touchpoint.
  • Aircraft Coordination: Direct aircraft to and from gates, manage push‑back operations, and communicate with pilots and flight crews via radio and hand signals.
  • Freight & Baggage Handling: Load, unload, sort, and transport baggage, cargo, mail, and company equipment in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
  • Documentation & Tracking: Accurately complete freight receipt and stacking slips, log cargo movements, and enter data into the arenax system.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate ground support equipment such as belt loaders, air start units, lift trucks, push‑back tractors, and de‑icing vehicles.
  • Safety & Compliance: Perform routine safety checks, adhere to all FAA and arenaflex regulations, and report any hazards or incidents immediately.
  • Cabin Cleaning & Restocking: Conduct interior cleaning of aircraft cabins, restock supplies, and ensure all passenger amenities are ready for the next flight.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the baggage handling team, cargo specialists, maintenance crews, and airport authorities to meet tight turnaround times.
  • Physical Tasks: Lift and move items up to 70 lb, climb stairs, bend, twist, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in training programs, provide feedback on processes, and contribute ideas that enhance efficiency and safety.

Essential Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship or valid authorization to work in the United States (arenaflex does not sponsor visas).
  • Successful completion of the Ramp Specialist training program with a minimum 90 % score.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed procedural manuals and safety guidelines.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to convey instructions via radio.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high‑stress, fast‑paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Physical capability to lift 70 lb repeatedly, climb ladders, and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Valid state driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Prior experience in airport ground operations, baggage handling, or cargo logistics.
  • Familiarity with ground support equipment such as belt loaders, push‑back tractors, and de‑icing trucks.
  • Basic knowledge of FAA regulations and airport safety protocols.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment or with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Customer‑service background in hospitality, retail, or transportation sectors.
