About arenaflex

arenaflex is a world‑leading technology and e‑commerce powerhouse that empowers millions of customers every day through innovative solutions, data‑driven insights, and relentless focus on operational excellence. Our Accounting Business Intelligence (BI) group is a cornerstone of the organization, delivering cutting‑edge automation, reporting, and analytics that enable finance teams worldwide to make faster, smarter decisions. As a remote‑first employer, arenaflex embraces flexibility, diversity, and continuous learning, offering a vibrant, inclusive culture that supports both personal and professional growth.

Why This Role Matters

In today’s fast‑moving digital economy, the ability to capture, transform, and analyze massive volumes of data is a competitive advantage. As a Data Engineer on the Accounting BI team, you will partner with cross‑functional stakeholders to design robust data pipelines, build scalable analytics platforms, and ensure that critical financial insights are delivered accurately and on time. Your work will directly influence strategic decisions, improve operational efficiency, and help arenaflex maintain its position as an industry leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Architecture & Modeling: Collaborate with business stakeholders and engineering teams to understand data requirements, define optimal data models, and design end‑to‑end data structures that support complex financial queries.
  • ETL Development & Automation: Design, develop, and maintain high‑performance ETL pipelines using AWS services (e.g., Glue, Redshift, Lambda) and open‑source tools, ensuring data quality, reliability, and compliance.
  • Data Platform Engineering: Build and optimize data warehouses and lakehouse solutions, leveraging technologies such as Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, or similar platforms to enable fast, ad‑hoc analytics.
  • Analytics Enablement: Partner with partner engineering groups to provision data access, develop self‑service BI tools, and empower analysts to extract actionable insights from large‑scale datasets.
  • Anomaly Detection & Monitoring: Implement proactive monitoring and anomaly detection frameworks using industry‑standard libraries (e.g., Amazon Lookout for Metrics, custom Python scripts) to identify data quality issues before they impact downstream reporting.
  • Big Data Processing: Leverage EMR, Hadoop, Spark, and related technologies to process petabyte‑scale data, ensuring performance, cost‑efficiency, and scalability.
  • Best Practices & Governance: Establish and enforce data engineering best practices, including code reviews, automated testing, documentation, and security standards across the organization.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Research emerging data technologies, propose proof‑of‑concepts, and drive adoption of modern data stack components that enhance the Accounting BI ecosystem.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of hands‑on data engineering experience in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
  • Proven expertise in data modeling, data warehousing, and building production‑grade ETL pipelines.
  • Strong command of SQL and at least one query language such as PL/SQL, HiveQL, SparkSQL, or Scala.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, preferably Python and/or KornShell, for automation and data manipulation.
  • Experience designing and implementing data pipelines on AWS (e.g., S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda) or comparable cloud platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with ambiguous requirements, translate business needs into technical solutions, and deliver results under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands‑on experience with large‑scale data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR, or equivalent.
  • Background in building and maintaining data lake architectures, including data ingestion, cataloging, and governance.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) to support end‑user analytics.
  • Knowledge of data security best practices, GDPR, and other regulatory compliance frameworks relevant to financial data.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to dissect complex data problems, identify root causes, and propose elegant technical solutions.
  • Collaboration: Strong communication skills to partner with finance, product, and engineering teams across multiple time zones.
  • Adaptability: Comfort working in a rapidly evolving environment, embracing new tools and methodologies.
  • Problem‑Solving: Proactive approach to troubleshooting data pipelines, performance bottlenecks, and data quality issues.
  • Ownership: Demonstrated accountability for end‑to‑end delivery of data products, from conception through production monitoring.
