Position Overview

arenaflex is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Architect to join our OTS Data Team on a full‑time, remote basis in Massachusetts. In this role, you will design, develop, and govern enterprise‑wide data solutions that integrate internal and external data sources, ensure data security, and support analytics at scale. You will act as a bridge between business stakeholders and engineering teams, translating strategic objectives into robust technical architectures that drive measurable impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural Leadership: Lead the design of end‑to‑end data solutions, including data models, integration pipelines, storage layers, security frameworks, and governance policies, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Technical Advisory: Provide expert guidance on data infrastructure choices, cloud platforms, and emerging technologies to senior engineers and project managers.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Conduct discovery workshops with business owners to capture requirements, pain points, and opportunities, then translate them into actionable architectural blueprints.
  • Solution Delivery Support: Partner with development squads to review designs, resolve technical challenges, and ensure timely, high‑quality delivery of data products.
  • Documentation & Standards: Create comprehensive architecture artifacts, data dictionaries, and reference models that articulate data assets, lineage, and usage guidelines.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends, evaluate new tools, and champion best practices that enhance data reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Governance & Compliance: Implement data governance frameworks, privacy controls, and regulatory compliance measures (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) across all data solutions.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor system health, conduct root‑cause analysis, and drive optimizations for latency, throughput, and scalability.
  • Mentorship: Coach junior architects and engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and technical excellence.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience designing and implementing production‑grade data architectures for large‑scale environments.
  • Deep understanding of data modeling techniques (dimensional, data vault, entity‑relationship) and experience applying them to real‑world scenarios.
  • Proficiency with ETL/ELT processes and tools; experience with arenaflex (formerly known as leading ETL platforms) for data ingestion, transformation, and loading.
  • Strong grasp of data governance concepts, data cataloging, and metadata management.
  • Experience building data lakes, lakehouses, and data warehouses on cloud platforms, leveraging storage, compute, and security services.
  • Advanced SQL skills with a proven ability to craft complex queries that meet diverse business needs.
  • Knowledge of data security best practices, including encryption, access control, and network security.
  • Familiarity with master data management (MDM) principles and implementation strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to deploy data solutions in big‑data ecosystems (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and to work with distributed processing frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or MA) in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in data architecture, cloud platforms, or data engineering (e.g., arenaflex Certified Data Engineer).
  • Experience with visualization platforms such as arenaflex (formerly known as leading BI tools) to create dashboards and reports.
  • Track record of leading cross‑functional, distributed teams in an agile environment.
  • Innovative mindset with a passion for exploring new data paradigms like data mesh and data virtualization.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to align technical architecture with long‑term business strategy.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork orientation, comfortable working with product managers, data scientists, and engineers across time zones.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑changing environment, quickly adopting new tools and methodologies.
  • Leadership: Mentor and influence peers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Customer Obsession: Keep the end‑user experience at the forefront of every design decision.
